London Book Fair Digital Conference: A Top 10 List
Travel setbacks left many Canadian publishers stranded as Heathrow-bound flights were delayed, delayed further, and then cancelled. But Livres Canada Books Board Member Louise Alain wasn’t deterred. She arrived early in London, and was able to attend the 2010 London Book Fair Digital Conference on our behalf. We’ve condensed her notes from the conference into an easily-digestible Top 10 list.
Livres Canada Books presents the London Book Fair Digital Conference Panels in a Top 10 list:
1. Readers want to engage with more than just books.
2. Digital media can meet customers everywhere (flickr, YouTube, twitter …).
3. Trade publishers can learn from academic and scientific publishers.
4. Know what to sell, to who, how to do it, and (most importantly) be fast at it.
5. New technologies expand the creative process. Creativity is not about creating content, it’s about creating applications for product use.
6. Mobile phones are important to the future of reading: people are trained to pay for mobile content.
7. Technology can motivate readers, turning borrowers into buyers.
8. Combine traditional publishing with digital publishing. Don’t segment.
9. Re-skill and re-train.
10. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
