Episode 1: Introduction
Welcome to Livres Canada Books’ Podcast B2B: Bookfair Beginners to Bosses, a podcast providing key insights into entering new book export markets in an era of limited international travel and emerging events and networking technologies. Meet your hosts Hillary LeBlanc, Tristian Lee, and Gabrielle Etcheverry.
Our goal is to provide an easygoing, informal forum for discussing exporting Canadian books, whether through rights sales or the sales of finished books, and some of the current challenges and opportunities for publishers looking to expand their sales beyond Canada’s borders.
Exporting books is important for a number of reasons. The domestic book market is small and isn’t growing at a rapid pace, so export is key to growing audiences (and hence sales). And export connects you with great people all over the global publishing industry. It’s a great form of cultural diplomacy and relationship building with publishing industry professionals around the world!

Episode 3: New event and networking tools and technologies in the COVID age
Welcome back to Livres Canada Books’ Podcast B2B: Bookfair Beginners to Bosses. During this COVID era many publishers, authors and people in the book business have experienced a new way of networking and promotion through virtual conferences as well as navigating new social media tools and expectations to continue brand prosperity. In this episode, we will discuss some of our experiences over the past year, what other people have been doing over social media, and what benefits this can have in the future.
Topics include:
- The rise of virtual book fairs, conferences, and B2B services, such as virtual matchmaking and third-party conference apps
- Expanding social media horizons
- Benefits and downfalls such as access to new markets, new exposure vs. keeping up branding, new demands and expectations, as well as mixing old networking methods in with new ones
